To determine the value of your gold, you’ll need your math skills and a scale (preferably one of the type used by jewelers, but a kitchen scale will work as well). Most dealers and refineries transact gold on a pennyweight basis, so if you’re using a kitchen scale, you’ll need to convert from grams or ounces. One ounce is the same as 20 pennyweights, and 1.5 grams is equal to one pennyweight. Once you have weighed your scrap gold, check the spot price. That figure is in ounces, so divide it by 20 for its pennyweight value or by 31.1 for its gram value. Keep in mind that the spot price is for pure gold; scrap is never pure (24 karats). You won’t get the entire spot price, but you’ll have a rough estimate of your profit.

3) Cleaning: Yes, cleaning goes a long way to salvage your relationship quickly. Whether this means tackling that laundry pile that looks like it’s about to fall over, doing the dishes when it’s not necessarily your turn or sweeping and mopping, it makes a difference. When a home (or room) is clean, it is easier to think and express yourself clearly. Remove the physical baggage and you will find some of the emotional baggage gone as well, which is essential if you want to salvage your relationship.

Mistake Number Four. Not Listening To the Auctioneer. An auctioneer is required by law to tell you what is wrong with the item up for sale. You must listen. During your research you will find out the acceptable title requirements for your state. Your auctioneer will state whether the bike has a salvage title, clear title, or no title. He will tell you whether or not he has a key. (Handy if you want to actually start the bike.) He will impart all of the information you need to know, but do it so quickly that if you are not paying attention and taking notes, you may end up paying for a very large doorstop.

If you run into someone who wants to negotiate a price for removal or who wants a cut of your scrap profits you will need to know the quantity of metal beforehand. You’ll need to know the weight of the metal if you plan on purchasing scrap and reselling. A scale can help you with most items however you should already have an idea of what certain commodity items ie. Radiators, engine blocks, rail ties, refrigerators etc. will fetch at your local yard.

Prior to sending in your gold, it is a best to remove anything of value from it. If you are selling rings, for example, remove any stones out or remove the gold of the item so one can weight the gold one by one. Always remember that other alloys such as silver, platinum and the stones may also have their own values. If you can separate them, that is better. If not ensure that it is clear and that there is other valuable metal and get a price for those materials also.

In some cases, new parts can rarely be managed from the manufacturer and even too much costly. You can easily find a good replacement of new parts from your nearby junk car selling. Some automotive parts remain in good condition even though the car is damaged. If you can manage your required parts from the junkyard, then it would save a huge from your budget.

What is the overall appearance of the bike. Yes, this may be a salvage bike, but don’t take on anything that you will not be able to repair. Especially, if you will have to replace parts because of a shabby paint job. Also, look to see if the bike is sight down centerline, and down forks.
