the first half of the gp4 mod looks like the last gp of the season. the leaders are already established, and the battle has already begun. djokovic and haase are fighting for the win, and the battle is wide open. it’s g-mo who takes the lead on the first lap, with djokovic’s long-range approach to the braking zone enabling him to take the lead. but not for long. haase passes him on the third lap.

the first few years of the road america grand prix were marred by poor weather conditions, wet races, sand storms, and other problems. the milwaukee sunday racing association tried their hand at holding the event in milwaukee, but it was unsuccessful. the race was then put on hiatus until the 1961 road america grand prix, which saw the introduction of the modern formula 1 tires. the racers were given a heavy dose of frozen orange juice to aid in traction.

as it turns out, the superbike 2 was introduced in 1993, and the final two superbike 2s were built in 1994. this is number 3, and i think this is the only one built with a v-twin engine (number 2 is a v-twin daytona model). this superbike is a little different from the others in that it has a triple tree frame, which is the first road bike i’ve seen that had a triple tree frame. they were built in a limited edition of 150 bikes. all of the engines in the production line were built by larry wells of k&n racing, and larry was the technical supervisor.

there are a few more notable bike bits to point out. the sunset anodized mavic 217 rims look great as do the gold and red spoke nipples. the shimano dx pedals gave mountain bikers a bigger platform than shimanos cross country models, offering better support for softer shoes and a place to stand when your cleat wasnt actually clicked in.
the shimano xtr 950 drivetrain really was a benchmark for reliability and performance, but some of the parts were crazy expensive. this bike omitted the matching xtr shifters and brakes to an otherwise complete group. xtr trigger shifters worked great but were about three times the cost of the gripshifters, a difference that usually explained the substitution and not an actual preference for twist-shift actuation.

thepartsshow offsomeother great fads and innovationsfromthe era.theres a selle san marco concor saddle in the perforated white leather (cant remember if the perforation was awesome because it made the saddle lighter or if it was a comfort thing). we have the bike equipped with first generation look pedals, which i think were the pp65 model, sometimes called sport pedals and really the first commercially successful ski-binding type pedals. the matrix rims are aero shaped instead of box-shaped, a design style that is evident on so many racing wheels today.
i get it, you like to see what the cars look like. i can offer you a «clicky» photo of the cars. the bike you see here is not the same as the one that geoff crammond raced. the gp4 bike was just a concept, a test bed to see if we could do something as crazy as that. after that the ford guys got hold of it and made it all go away. i wish i could have gotten the photo of crammond on the bike, but the ford guys took the photo off of my computer before i could save it. i don’t even know if it was saved on the computer, so we’ll never know.
the gp4 bike has a frame that is an evolution of the rsi series. the rsi series had a steel frame and an aluminum swing arm. the frame of the gp4 is all aluminum. the swing arm is aluminum, but it is a different design. the gp4 was designed in a very straight forward way and was easy to work with. it’s still a great bike. the gp4 is a great bike and i still ride it today. i took it for a test ride a few months ago, and it still goes like a charm.
i believe that the gp4 was the first real japanese superbike. it has a lot of torque in comparison to the others. the gp4 was built for peter williams and was built in japan. the gp4 was being built in the same garage that i was building my first gp3. for the gp4 it was the same engine we used in my gp3, but the gp4 was a custom bike. the gp4 is a bike that was really built to go fast.
