the car tracking system is implemented with dlist data structure. it tracks all the car position and velocity with the help of a smartnode component and a listnode data structure. at the beginning, the dlist just contains all the smartnode components in the game level. each smartnode component has a unique id. i can get the current node’s id by calling getid() method of smartnode component.
the input context system can be used to detect when a specific key is pressed or released. so i added a new component to the car component called joystick in inputcontext to detect which keys are being pressed or released when the car is moving. in addition, i used smartnode component to detect if there is a button pressed or released when the car is moving. in smartnode component, joystick can be used to get the current state of keys.
as mentioned before, each car has a unique id. the car data structure contains data such as the current id, the current speed, the direction, the turn rate, the last turn time and position. to keep the api as clean and simple as possible, i cannot keep track of all these data. instead, car stores the last turn time and position as well as the current position. a car is moving towards a target location, and we call it as fastcar while another car is moving away from a target location, and we call it as slowcar. the cachedcarpos keeps the current location of the car and the turntimer keeps the current time in milliseconds.
