How to install a double curtain rod?
It may be interesting to install a double row of curtains to benefit from the advantages of different types of curtains (opaque and veils, for example) or for aesthetic reasons. This installation is often found in front of bay windows, French windows or very high windows.
It is then necessary to install a specific suspension rod, which has two bars, allowing the two curtains to be juxtaposed, and supports. Its installation is similar to a more classic rod: how to install and fix it properly.
Take the measurements for fixing the supports.
The first step is to determine where the supports will be positioned. You can present the rod with the curtains to get an idea of the ideal location. Otherwise, remember that there must be enough space between the window and the rod so that opening and closing do not pose a problem. If the wall does not leave enough room or if there is a box, it may be better to opt for ceiling rod supports.
In any case, the brackets must be located at least 15 cm from each side of the window so that the curtains entirely cover it when closed and do not obscure any light.
Now that you have this information, you can trace using a pencil to mark the drill locations. Make sure the short curtain poles are straight once installed: draw a line between the two supports (or place an adhesive tape) and use a spirit level.
Drill and fix the rod supports
Before moving on to the actual installation, choosing the type of dowels and screws to use is essential. The choice of dowels dramatically depends on the construction material of the wall or ceiling as well as the weight of the rod and curtains.
These fittings are sometimes included with the double chrome curtain pole, but check that they are correct for your situation.
Equipped with a drill, you can drill on the locations marked beforehand. Then insert the dowels into the holes, and screw the brackets.
Install rod bars
Place your double curtain poles long on the brackets to ensure everything is installed correctly. You can then easily see if there is a level problem. If everything is in place, it is necessary to determine the ideal length of the double rod, which is sometimes longer than necessary. If this is the case, it will be necessary to use a hacksaw to obtain the desired dimension, knowing that the rod must protrude at least 10 cm on each side of the supports. Then place the rings of the curtain in the rod, remount it on the supports and block it using the screws provided for this purpose. Finally, install the decorative finials at each end; voila, you have installed a double curtain rod!
