I loved the story of the game. Even though it seems like it may be overwrought and done at a very slow pace it does tell a fair amount of backstory while it’s happening. I had a fairly enjoyable experience. It’s been a while since I played an RPG that actually sucked my time away and I was pleasantly surprised to find myself want to keep playing. Not great music, but I expected it to be. The UI is clunky, but that’s sort of its charm. I can’t seem to get past the first part of the game, though. I get stuck in a loop of random encounters and, when I manage to kill the first of those, I’m at a point where I’m very excited to see what happens next because I know how much more there is to find. Unfortunately, I don’t have a particularly good idea of how to get past that part. The idea is very cool and I would love to play it more, but I just can’t seem to do it. Maybe I’ll try again later. I didn’t think the combat would be all that fun. I’m glad I made it past the first battle to find out that it’s one of those that’s sort of a slow, behind-the-scenes grind. If you start searching for things that are out in the field or even just going from point A to point B, you’ll be able to take advantage of the skills and weapons you have equipped. You can also pick up new weapons and cast new spells. I do think that the key to the game’s appeal is the skill tree, so if you’re less interested in combat than you are exploring and tooling around, then you may have a hard time. The idea is to send your party out into the field, level up their stats, and have them use those skills in battle to earn better equipment and evermore powerful spells. The cool thing about it is that the game does a great job of making you feel like a badass as you get better and better.
