Photoshop also has a big feature set, and, as many developers do, Adobe keeps adding on. You can get the full Photoshop experience of colors, layers and masks on the desktop; Elements (and it’s predecessor, Elements 6) has taken up exactly where Photoshop left off, and includes everything that it’s initial additional features—but what it leaves out is what actually makes it of use when editing your photos.

Photoshop ends up being the less likely to disappoint if you’re looking for a’serious’ photo editor, as its slings and arrows are strong across the board. If you’re looking for a more standalone editor, however, Elements is your best bet.

Adobe Photoshop has 40+ features, thousands of effects, tools for text and image manipulation, importer for photos, everything you could possibly use for graphic design. You can even add filters, shapes and lots of more on top of that in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. As good as Photoshop is, Elements has most of its power and looks.
