Small adjustments to these settings in the former Layers panel allow you to immediately see how the adjustment affects the overall image. It’s a little annoying at first to have to use a different panel for the purpose. I’ll get used to it, and the feature is truly valuable. Even better, when you select the adjustment slider, the panel doesn’t instantly close. You can tweak the setting and immediately see the changes. It’s been years since I’ve seen anything like that or anything that lets you make such accurate changes quickly.

You can create or open new documents and save them. Select File to bring up the File menu. You can use the menu bar at the top of the screen to access tools. You also can use one of the many functions of the Mac’s Super Bar at the top of the screen.

The menu bar may begin to “look cluttered,” but you can hide it and other items that you don’t need by clicking the View menu and choosing Show/Hide. Choose Hide Other Items to hide menu items that appear at the very top of the toolbar. This will help you tidy the desktop, and to see more of what’s in your image editor. You can also choose Lock N Show so that the settings of the document don’t change when you switch between the Tools menu and the View menu.

What Makes It Difficult: If you’ve never used Photoshop before, you may be overwhelmed with the number of options and functions available to you. This powerful program has many tools to quickly make the image you want. If you try to use every one, you may become frazzled.

How to Apply: Using the Gradient tool, first select your Gradient style. Then click and drag across your canvas to start drawing your gradient.
