In a liquid crystal display device, a pair of substrates (a first substrate and a second substrate) is provided with a liquid crystal therebetween, and a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal via a pair of electrodes formed on each of the substrates. A transparent adhesive used for this is usually a UV-curable, thermosetting or thermoplastic adhesive. Among such adhesives, a UV-curable, thermosetting or thermoplastic adhesive has high heat resistance. Therefore, if such an adhesive is used, the film-formed component and the support substrate can be bonded together by being exposed to sunlight for a long period of time.
However, if such an adhesive is used, there is a possibility that the liquid crystal that is a light transmitting medium will be scattered therethrough. Such a defect is referred to as a screen defect in a liquid crystal display device.
A scattering layer including a scattering material and/or a filler is formed on a liquid crystal-facing surface of one of a pair of substrates.
