i like how blenders documentation clearly states that the 3d engine is only supported under windows. and not linux and that blender 2.79 was the last windows supported release. and that the windows blender 2.82a/above manual does not cover the foundations 2.8/above graphics api/opengl/opencl api/api level discussion and there are no graphics api/opengl/opencl api/api level/driver support in the 2.82a/above blender manual.

currently im using cinnamon which is a kde style 2 panel layout and there are some minor issues with cinnamon 2. i just dont like the cinnamon desktop. im looking for a different desktop that has a more kde style 2 panel setup without the ugly cinnamon desktop. and i dont like windows 10 and all of microsofts crap. i have read that the best linux desktop for 3d/blender/etc is the cinnamon desktop. i like the simplicity and simplicity of the cinnamon desktop.

but, since im a blender dev and theyve pretty much ignored my hardware questions and needs, im really looking forward to blender 3d support for rdna2 discrete graphics. but, yes, blender has a long way to go before getting there.

i do want to highlight for you the blender foundation, that i made this blender 2.8 download website for those users who have issues downloading the blender 2.8 installation files on their computer. i have been using blender for about 10 years now and i know how hard it is to get this blender files installed on to a computer that does not have blender installed.

but whatever amd is offering, blender needs to be ready to support it. on windows im pretty sure there was support for gcn1/1.0 and 1.1 but not 1.2 and the only amd gpu that would have gcn2 is the rx 550 which blender doesnt list in the hardware requirements section. blender 2.79 will support amds last gcn 1.0 gpu the radeon 7650m. so im not sure what to recommend in the amd 600 series lineup. im looking for an amd laptop with an amd discrete gpu that is more powerful than the radeon 7650m and im not even looking at anything below the rx 550, im thinking maybe a rx 550 and maybe a rx 560, but im willing to be guided by any other feedback as to what im missing in my amd pc hardware shopping.
and by the way, if you have a radeon 7650m discrete gpu and need help, you need to have a radeon 7650m and blender 2.8/above currently for it to work. and some distros(and some of the blender 2.8 documentation folks) are saying that the drivers available for that gpu are not good enough for blender 2.8 yet and still getting better on linux. and a newer discrete gpu is still required for 3d applications(even if just for opengl for blender to render to a different file format, etc).
my suggestion to those using amd 600 series gpus and linux for blender is that you keep your eye on blender 2.8 documentation for hardware requirements and be ready to upgrade to a discrete gpu or a newer amd gpu offering for blender 2.8.
and to be perfectly frank, if amd keeps up with the offerings that they are now offering and keep the rx 550 on the lower end 600 series gpu lineup, then i dont really know what all the fuss is about with the 600 series gpus. but if they do not, then i think its a good idea to be ready to upgrade to a newer discrete gpu or wait for a new amd gpu offering and upgrade to that discrete gpu or apu if you have the same issue with blender 2.8 and amd 600 series rx gpus on linux.
