I’m not saying this is a common problem but I’m of the opinion if there is a small chance of this then I’d rather pay a little extra money from a well-known tire shop with branded tires.

You may be thinking that large rims will not fit your car or vehicle. But you can fit larger then standard size rims because of the new technology of the low profile tires that can handle even heavy SUVs and handle the impact of potholes and other bad road hazards you can come across during your drive.

Tire replacement is a reality faced by every motorist at some point in time. If your vehicle is around 6-8 years old, you should seriously consider replacing the tires with ones that have a better tread. That does not mean you need to buy brand new tires. New tires cost a lot and if there is an option to have tires with decent tread at one-third the price of new ones, why not take it.

If you have a small truck, you can even make use of tires that are designed for sports utility vehicles without any difficulty. On the other hand, if you have a medium sized truck, you will automatically have to go in for tires specifically designed for such trucks. Of course, the manufacturer is the best person who can advise you on the right tires to buy.

First off, lets determine when you actually need tires. Most people are familiar with the penny method for measuring tires. That’s where you stick a penny between the tread grooves with Lincoln’s head upside down. If you can see the top of his head, it’s time to buy tires. This is correct if the tires are roughly equally worn across the entire width of the tire. I should mention that if your tires are in fact so low that you see the top of honest Abe’s head you are at the absolute lowest you should go before replacing.

The 245 – Stands for the measurement in millimeters from one end of the sidewall to the other, in other words it measures the width of the tire. So the larger the number is, the wider the tires will be.

Lets face it. Four wheel drive tires are not cheap items. They might last for a long time, but you want to make them last for as long as possible before you have to shell out several hundred for another set. Of course the type of tires has a lot of bearing on how many miles the tires will do. In saying this, there are a few things which you can do without much effort that will conserve your tires!

There are two types of junk yardnear me. Literally those that are used that someone no longer wanted because they bought new ones. These are usually the worst option and should only be considered as a means to an end until your next payday. (Of course, if they are in really good shape because someone just changed the wheel size on their vehicle during a customization, then you might use them for many miles without trouble). Retreaded ones are a better option than just simply used ones. A retread shop retreads and sells some that are almost as good as new ones for a fraction of the price.

My «cheap tires» lasted me a total of 22,000 miles. My old «Expensive Tires» averaged over 50,000 per set. I shelled out the dough for the good ones this time.

The side of the tire casing can tell you a lot. In addition to the standard fare like the manufacturer name and the maximum air pressure, you can find a series of digits called the tire identification number (some people call this the tire serial number). You can usually find it embossed close to the inside of the rubber closest to the rim of the wheel. It will tell you a couple of things you need to know before you buy.
