It might fun to be creative and turn that old wheel into a tire swing for your kids in the backyard or at the playground. They also could be turned into little fair games as well as practice equipment for football agility drills.
In general, always buy tires at least in pairs. Never put one new tire on one wheel when the other has considerable wear. Generally, it’s best to put your new tires on the front to take advantage of better steering and handling with a new tire. But if your car is rear wheel drive, be aware that badly worn tires in the back will cause your car to skid and lose control quickly in wet or slippery conditions. If you rotate your tires regularly, say every 7500 or 10,000 miles at least, then your tires should all wear out around the same time and it’s best to replace all four as a set.
When purchasing front or back tires for a FWD tractor, the wear on the tires needs consideration, as does the size. Check for overall wear and see if it will fit the tractor it is being bought for. A check of ply rating and tread patterns may also be a good idea as there are a variety of plys and patterns.
Another part that should be inspected is the bead and side walls. Beads are the portion of tires that fits the rim of the wheel. Side walls, on the other hand, are literally the side of the tires. The bead, whether new or used, must be undamaged or otherwise, they will not fit the rim properly. When it comes to side walls, refrain from buying metal prices with deep cuts on this portion. If you are not familiar with these parts, you can ask your mechanic to come with you on the date of purchase.
Buying cheap wheels instead of tires that are more expensive could possibly hurt you in the long run. Cheaper ones are cheap because they are made with lower quality materials. When buying cheap wheels, you sacrifice a whole host of traits that come only with more expensive tires and the most important one is safety. What that means is the tire will not have as good of a grip on the road as more expensive tires and it will be affected more by imperfections and debris on the road. cheap tires also tend to be louder than and not as quiet as more expensive tires.
Heater and defroster. You should also test your heater and defroster. Without a properly working heater, the rest of your Audi parts will fail miserably; which is why people «warm up their car.» Likewise, if your defroster is working sub-par, you won’t be able to see clearly.
Tire replacement is a reality faced by every motorist at some point in time. If your vehicle is around 6-8 years old, you should seriously consider replacing the tires with ones that have a better tread. That does not mean you need to buy brand new tires. New tires cost a lot and if there is an option to have tires with decent tread at one-third the price of new ones, why not take it.
If buying a secondhand tire it is prudent to ask if there are any obvious repairs that have been done to the tire. Although if a repair has been done properly there should be no issues if there are any problems with the repair moisture and air could have seeped into the casing of the tire which could potentially cause issues further down the track. No repairs is great!
