This new fantasy action RPG will be published by FF14-2 publisher Square Enix and will star the same characters such as Lightning, Auron, and Isa. However, unlike the previous two installments, this latest installment will be rated M by the ESRB. We’ll take a look at this game and how it differs from Final Fantasy XIII-2 (henceforth, FF13-2). Story The main protagonist, Lightning, wakes up in a small village. She discovers that she’s in a different world, and there is no town nearby, and the people are simple and strong. However, Lightning discovers a stone pillar outside the town, and she feels a strong connection to it. The stone pillar is called the Elden Ring. As the story unfolds, we’ll see how the relationship between Lightning and the stone pillar grows. The story is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter is titled Prologue. It begins with an introduction to the Elden Ring. Shortly after the introduction, Lightning meets the Legendary Sages who are called Sages. They look a little bit different from their Final Fantasy XIII-2 counterparts. It’s not a drastic difference, but it’s still noticeable. These Sages take Lightning to the village that she’s currently living in, which is called Caligo. Here, she meets the villagers in the village. The villagers tell her that she is from Earth, where the People of the Heavens live. The Sages found Lightning in Caligo and brought her to Earth, and Lightning had a difficult life there. She was taken to the Elden Ring that she holds in her hand, and she sees the Elden Ring called the Dark Leaf. Lightning comes to a realization that she has to defeat this Dark Leaf. The story unfolds, and we get to see Lightning, Lightning’s allies, and the Sages face the darkness and the Blood Moon. The story unfolds in a way where we understand the situation that Lightning is facing as it unfolds.
