There are literally hundreds of car part dealers out there that you can find on the Internet. You can search for the exact parts you need according to model numbers and vehicle types. This makes it easier than ever before to find exactly the car parts you need at the click of a button.

The clerk at the new auto parts will either find your filter in stock or order it for you. Select the type of oil the manufacturer of your vehicle recommends. A common grade of engine oil is 10W30. Select the size of oil container your vehicle usually uses for a refill. Mine usually uses about four litres of oil. You will need an oil filter wrench that will fit your size of oil filter and a box end wrench to fit the size of oil pan bolt your vehicle has. They are commonly about one half of an inch. Be sure you have a variety of wrenches available around that size. You will need a metal pan about six inches deep which should be large enough to hold more than four litres of oil. These are readily available at hardware stores. You will need some newspapers and rags to wipe your hands on.

Aftermarket car parts come in two variations. The first is simply a generic form of the OEM part, much like generic pharmaceuticals compared to name brands. The second is an accessory for a car such as cold air intake systems for the engine, racks to carry bikes and so on. There isn’t much debate that this second form of aftermarket car parts is fine, but the first variation is the area where contention starts.

There are different places one can look for auto parts such as local specialty stores, online stores or auto parts auctions, and last but not least junk or salvage yards. Every place has its pros and cons.

Take the time to find the auto parts that are right for you and your car. This will help you to learn all that you need to know about your exotic car and the auto parts that may need to go with it. If you are going to take it a part and do work yourself, you will have to know what you are doing so that it doesn’t get messed up and so that it will run well for you in the long run. There is a reason that you picked this style of car and if you are willing to honor that, you will have a great looking and running car in the end.

I just want to caution you. Please do not go to your dealer for parts. Obviously, you want to go there to get your basic maintenance taken care of and that should be just fine. But for more serious servicing you should stay as far away from your dealer as humanly possible. At least as far as your TDI car parts are concerned. Many dealers actually mark up their prices by as much as 300%, and will let you pay the price without batting an eye.
