it seems like ea is taking a crack at the singleplayer experience here, and its a vast improvement over what we saw in “skate.” the single player missions offer a few different paths, ranging from practice, checkpoint, chaos, mystery, to a three-person mission.
the biggest improvement from the previous installments are the skate parks that you are able to build and edit. each includes a checklist of various tasks to complete, including foot placement and what jump you want to make. if you are skilled enough, you can earn points that are used to unlock new things for your skate park, allowing you to unlock new tricks, special modes, and even skateboards. unfortunately, many of these features require constant progression in the game. skate 3 is still an enjoyable experience, with a much larger selection of content than “skate.” but the lack of ability to make many of your own custom goals has left the game feeling empty at times.

as far as online goes, the first thing you will notice is that it is no longer third-person. ea has tried to fix this by offering a new camera mode, but it simply does not work like it should. it is much easier to navigate through the environment in first-person, unless you want to spend half of your time trying to drag the camera back to a third-person view.
