let me tell you an interesting story that takes place inside one of the houses. you probably knew that in old serbia the houses had at least three floors. why is that? in order to improve the living conditions of the residents. now try to imagine life in the middle of the 19^th century. the water sources were not clean at all. there was a heavy flow of water that was actually full of feces and not toilet. the sewage system that existed in cities was not of any use in the villages. the residents had to deal with the dirtiest water they had ever seen before. when the supply of water stopped for long periods of time, the water sources also dried up. people started to come to the spring and collect the stale water. sometimes, a whole crowd of people visited a spring. they collected the water in a bucket, carried it in small buckets back home and from there got into the house and shared it with the entire family. it was never enough, most of the residents had serious health problems. the water from the spring was one of the most contaminated, unhealthy water sources in the world. so, this was the reality in the 19^th century. the first official attempt to reach the level of hygiene in this way was in 1882 in the little village of hrta. in place of the traditional drip-walls in the houses, covered with a net-a-net, the first small houses were built, called akcije. in each one there was an independent entrance for each resident and in each house the family lived, and there was a big grassy courtyard in the middle, called doba. the main characteristic of these houses is the absence of the second floor, without the cause of a roof collapse. the cost for this was ridiculously cheap – 25-35 kn. it is still the same price today. there was, literally, no land cost for the construction, and they were covered with a single layer of straw and earth.
