Ask a Friend–Local mechanics may do small jobs for a minimal amount of money either out of their home garage or tucked away in an unadvertised locale. Sometimes, even retirees enjoy doing this type of work at a very reasonable rate. So, ask your friends for personal recommendations. This worked for me when I moved to a different state.

These items are mostly junk and can be found mostly in charter yachts. But relax, we do not want you to go on a junkyard hunting trip! There are dealers who sell junk and scrap too.

Sometimes, when the production of certain models of automobiles is discontinued, their auto parts in stock are sold for very heavy discounts. Keep an eye on that, especially if you have a car of the same model, as a few years down the line these same parts could be hard to find, and pretty expensive. Why not buy and store them in bulk?

Automotive Service Excellence certification or affiliation with the Automotive Service Association are good options. You may want to ask about the credentials of the mechanics. Someone who has been to auto/diesel school will have more training about vehicles than someone who learned in his garage growing up.
