It goes without saying that if there is a problem in your auto parts, even one that you are not positive is there, but you just suspect; you bring it in to get checked. It is not worth the risk. These slight problems can grow. If you smell something in your engine, especially a smoky smell; these are warning signs. If your brakes are squealing, that is also a reason to take your car to be checked. Brakes are a very delicate auto part, and must be taken extreme care of. It is beyond dangerous for someone to have brakes that are not working. As soon as it seems like they are not at their best, you need to get them looked at.

But the junk yard? Well again now what? Do you just give up and walk home? Not likely, your mind kicks into gear to evaluate your options, catch a flight… rent a car… take a bus? There are plenty of alternatives to get you to your destination.

Sometimes, when the production of certain models of automobiles is discontinued, their auto parts in stock are sold for very heavy discounts. Keep an eye on that, especially if you have a car of the same model, as a few years down the line these same parts could be hard to find, and pretty expensive. Why not buy and store them in bulk?

Cribs and baby swings (which may fall apart). Electronics or electrically powered items with frayed or damaged power cords. Bike and motorcycle helmets, child car seats and tires for cars, motorcycles and bikes can have all kinds of hidden internal damage. If you are selling a laptop or plasma TV, make sure it works perfectly (many have hidden damage you would not notice until later – make sure customers see those items work before they leave in case they drop them later and claim they never worked to begin with). Hats and shoes can spread tiny critters around.

Salvage yards tend to be most interested in vehicles that have a reputation for reliability and popular vehicles of any kind. The former are valuable because drivers are interested in using their parts to keep the same model of vehicle running for a long period of time. The latter are desirable because their parts are typically in high demand.
