and have split – three months after missing out on being crowned winners, MailOnline can reveal.

The runners-up called time on their romance last week – and failed to join their co-stars at the channel’s glitzy Palozza on Tuesday evening.

They were last pictured together on November 5 celebrating firework night, with Luca, 23, marking ‘another first’ with Gemma, 19, who’s the daughter of footballer Michael Owen.

On Monday, Luca also attended the TV Choice Awards 2022 in London without Gemma as she appeared to have skipped the event. 

A source close to the couple told MailOnline on Wednesday: ‘Gemma and Luca have decided to part ways.

‘Their relationship hasn’t worked for the last few weeks, and they have come to the conclusion that it’s better for them both to end things now.

‘They hope to remain friends and will continue to support each other in everything they do going forward.

‘Love Island was a special time in their lives but sadly their romance hasn’t felt the same outside of the villa.’

The pair recently holidayed together in Dubai, which was where cracks in their relationship started to show. 

Luca at the end of August, spoiling the PrettyLittleThing ambassador with a £6,000 Cartier bracelet, display of red roses, and a romantic candlelit scene that many fans likened to a marriage proposal.

Unlike their co-stars, Gemma and Luca waited until they made their relationship official until after the series had finished.

Gemma told Luca it was important for him to have the approval of her parents, including mum Louise – with the fishmonger later.

Luca had flown to The Algarve to meet Michael Owen, saying he would ask Gemma to be his girlfriend after meeting her former footballer father.

The couple met during the summer 2022 series of Love Island and struck up a romance, staying loyal to each other during Casa Amor and making it all the way to the final.

But they missed out on winning the £50,000 prize pot after coming in second place to Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti, who won Love Island this summer by a landslide.

Viewers questioned Luca’s behaviour during the ITV2 series and accused him of gas lighting following his possessive treatment of Gemma.

He was also branded a ‘bully’ for being unkind towards his deaf co-star Tasha Ghouri, who was left in tears after he claimed she was faking her feelings towards boyfriend Andrew Le Page.

Gemma and Luca were not initially paired up together by the public upon their arrival on the ITV2 dating show but quickly struck up a romance, with the couple deciding to pursue things in the second recoupling.

Despite Gemma’s ex-boyfriend Jacques O’Neill entering the villa and causing a row between the pair, their relationship remained strong and Luca went on to befriend the rugby player.

During the show’s second week, Danica Taylor stole Luca from Gemma but the pair quickly recoupled and then stayed loyal to one another in Casa Amor.

After the bombshell second villa, the pair said they loved each other for the first time, with Luca gushing: ‘I’ve never been so sure in saying something, because I’ve not seen a future with someone like I have with you, and I, uh, I think I’m in love you with you.Nah, I am in love with you.’

To which Gemma quickly responded: ‘I love you too!’

The pair’s romance hit the rocks during movie night, with Luca accusing Gemma of flirting with Billy and the pair then had an explosive row before patching things up.

He raged at the time: ‘If you wanna flirt then I’ll flirt, get me a bombshell in here now!’ before adding, ‘I can’t be with someone like that, I’m sorry.’

His reaction led his family to take to Instagram Stories on his account to say they didn’t condone his behaviour towards partner Gemma, but the pair quickly made up.

Fans at the time also called for Gemma to break off her relationship after Luca raged at her for ‘flirting’ with bombshell Billy. 

They had another row following the mile-high challenge, with Luca storming off and taking his microphone off when Gemma licked co-star Adam Collard in the task.

Luca pushed Gemma off him and she later confronted him, saying: ‘Luca, don’t play thick.You were pushing me off, had a face like a slapped arse, are you 12?’ 

Though they didn’t come to an agreement, they both agreed to move on from the fight and later bonded as they became ‘parents’ in the baby challenge.

The couple then enjoyed a very romantic final date on Love Island, where they were serenaded by a six-piece ensemble in a picturesque courtyard.

Discussing their future, Luca said he didn’t think they would encounter any ‘massive challenges’ on the outside and the pair went on to make it to the final, coming in second place. 

Since leaving the villa, Luca spoke out on being accused of c, told how he was looking for somewhere to rent in the celebrity hot spot but wouldn’t be moving in to her family’s estate. 

He said at the time: ‘There is no middle ground – it’s Chester or nothing!’

‘I’m happy to go wherever she wants me to go.I haven’t got too many commitments back home so it’s easier for me to move. Whatever makes us happy and whatever is right we’ll do. Hopefully if I move near her, in time we’ll get a place together.’

He added: ‘Just to be near her family I’ll love.Hearing stories about her barbecues and stuff like that, I’m quite excited and I feel like I’ll fit right in.’

Earlier this month, , despite leaving alongside Gemma.

The former fishmonger made the surprise revelation while attending the 2022 TV Choice Awards at the London Hilton Park Lane, admitting he simply hoped for ‘a good summer and good time’. 

Making a solo appearance without his girlfriend, Luca told On Demand Entertainment: ‘You’re naïve to go in there to think your going to find love.It’s called Love Island, but I never went in there thinking I’d meet Gemma.

‘I’d be a liar to say that. I went in there for a good summer and to have a good time and on top of it all I’ve met a girl I couldn’t ask anymore from.

‘Me and Gemma are the youngest couple to come out the show and we’ve not planned anything.We just take it day by day and as it comes.’

Earlier this week, Luca made a solo appearance at the TV Choice Awards in a dapper black three piece dinner suit and a crisp white shirt.

He said of the appearance: ‘Gemma was meant to be in America but it got cancelled and she couldn’t find a dress last minute and she lives four hours away so had to let her off tonight.

Luca said they try and spend as much time as possible together whenever their busy schedules allow, with him based in Brighton and Gemma based up in Cheshire.

Luca added: ‘Whenever we get free I’m up there with her or she’s down here with me but she has to prioritise her horse and riding.’

Meanwhile, a newly single Gemma has plenty of work commitments to keep her busy. 

She became the first Love Island star since Molly-Mae Hague to sign with PrettyLitteThing after rising to fame on Love Island.

The TV personality landed a six-figure contract with the online giant and is preparing to launch her first collection following the release of her autumn/winter edit.

She was also snapped up by brand Abbott Lyon after Love Island fans grew to admire the personal jewellery she wore in the villa, with her going onto launch a collection inspired by her own pieces.

Gemma revealed to MailOnline in September that she’s also in talks for her own TV show, which she hinted will follow her passion for horses.

She said: ‘We do have something very different in the pipeline, which I’m really excited to start working on. I can’t reveal too much.’
