pc-fx is an advanced version of pce-x. it’s a really powerful emulator, can play many games, including gca titles. unfortunately, it is also a bit too slow for my taste. it does have problems playing some games (for example, sonic game), but this makes it quite fascinating. at the same time, it has its problems. it often crashes, especially when working with large amounts of items.

games need to be run from inside the rom directory. if you run from anywhere else, mednafen will try to load the bios, rather than the core. here is an example of the game metrowerks/stinger/classic versions (disregard the «s»):

the game rom is found in the folder named for your core. there are 2 folders with the same name. the «trunk» has everything you want, and «release» is more likely to have what you need, as it’s the latest patch or update. hence, if you’re having trouble with some core, trying to load the trunk version. the rom files also need to be named in a fashion that mednafen likes.

omniroms: started using it when i saw it, in combination with the next header. i used omniroms as a main method to convert ps1 roms into a format mednafen could use. now that mednafen uses a more accurate method to match roms, the omnirom format is outdated. omniroms is also not compatible with most newer cores, such as the spca 2000. i recommend it, as it’s the most effective way to get games to run. it’s quite simple to use. currently the omniroms site is down but i’ll add a link to a version when i fix it. my version of omniroms is v1.8.3. the name of the omnirom folder is your core name. omniroms uses a format called «sinit». all the files found in the omnirom folder are needed. don’t forget to rename the files to match the format of the core you’re loading. for example, if you’re using the ps1 decoder, the files should end in «.ps1u».

win98-me does not support repositioning memory. the special address «mem_name» for the amount of memory (around 1mb) that the game uses will not function. you can use win98-nt, win98-xp, or above to fix this.
the zif base option is used for 8-bit zif demodulation. when set to 1, the zif base is invert, when set to 0, the zif base is not inverted. when set to 2, the zif base is a rough approximation, instead of a true zif decoding of the baseband. when set to 3, the zif base is the function inverse value of the zif_demodulator_get_baseband( ); . the default value is 2.
sampling rate. this is used for the baseband conversion to get the sound to the sound hardware. 44.1khz is the default baseband output rate, which is used by most hardware. the default for most hardware is 44.1khz.1khz is the sampling rate of the sound, not the sound sample rate. this can be set manually through editing the.cfg file. changing this can improve cpu usage and sound quality. the default is 44.
the 0 to 3 options let the user choose which metadata header to output. choose 0 to get the music metadata, then 1 to get a video metadata header, then 2 to get video and music, and finally 3 to get video and game data. the metadata is not actually saved to the rom, but the rom only knows about music (tracks) and video (frames). even 0 has no effect for games, but if playing music it will output music_header. does not apply to playstation 2.
neogeo 64: single-stage save states are all large files, so with all the m64 games, i had to use large to be able to copy them all to a floppy. worked out well. all the sa-game titles run save ok. some controls may be slow or under/overclocked, and one game runs slightly slower than in the rest. the extra information added on ui-file info.zip allows choosing one of the following:
