This is an enjoyable tournament. It is short and sharp and does not drag on for ever like some do. Australia is a great venue for it, too, even if it is a bit chilly right now.
The Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year was decided to a large extent by the toss because of the dew that affected the second innings. But that should not happen this time and teams can win batting first in this tournament.
As Trevor Bayliss said in these pages on Tuesday, Australia is being affected by the La Nina weather pattern again and, with it being colder and damper, that will bring seam bowlers into it and make it a much more even contest between bat and ball.
Harry Brook has made an immediate impact to England’s batting lineup since his debut
England slot siteleri have got a fantastic chance. They have every base covered, with so much depth, and their only issues seem to be over who to leave out.
If they want to leave out a batter — and I wouldn’t if I were them — will it be Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone or even Ben Stokes?
There are no such issues at the top of the order where Jos Buttler is one of the best ever to play the white-ball game and slot siteleri Alex Hales is hugely experienced and has done exceptionally well in Australian conditions. After them comes Dawid Malan, who was imperious in the first warm-up match in Canberra last week.
The same question of who to leave out arises with the ball. Is it Chris Jordan, Sam Curran or Chris Woakes? But that one might be answered for them because they will be concerned about Reece Topley’s ankle injury. He has become a very useful performer.
I would pick all the batters, which probably means playing Livingstone at seven. In the early days of T20 the stats told you it was a position hardly worth worrying about because the No 7 faced so few balls.
Liam Livingstone is one of England’s biggest hitters and could feature in the XI at No 7
But having batting depth means England can go ballistic all the way through. They have a safety valve, with a batter at seven, of a very long middle order. It is depth that Pakistan, for instance, do not have, so Babar Azam and slot siteleri Mohammad Rizwan have to bat more carefully because 20 overs is a long time for them.
England are trying to find the best role for Stokes, which is understandable with such a key player. His international T20 record is not as great as his Test and ODI ones, but he has excelled in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals and I would bat him at four now.
When it comes down to the business end of tournaments or Tests, Stokes is superb with the bat at thinking his way through pressure situations and rising to the occasion.
England’s death bowling will be all-important.Look at the last two T20 World Cups and there was the time Stokes, who is not always as assured under pressure with the ball, did not have the final word in Kolkata when Carlos Brathwaite hit him for four successive last-over sixes to win the tournament for West Indies.
Then, last year in the UAE, Jordan went for 23 runs in the 17th over of the semi-final against New Zealand and suddenly the World Cup was gone again. It is one of those tournaments where you can be brilliant throughout and one bad over costs you.
Ben Stokes will be key for England in the middle order – and most likely with the ball as well
Jordan has been England’s go-to death bowler but he’d had a quiet time up until last summer, when he bowled pretty well.

Unless they leave a batsman out, his place is under threat and the No 8 slot siteleri is probably going to be the most talked about before Saturday’s first match against Afghanistan in Perth.
I have swayed between Jordan and Curran for that No 8 slot but I am going with Curran because he offers so much with ball, bat and in the field and his death bowling has been excellent in the last year.He just has a knack of getting things done and even though he is not quick, he gets wickets. On recent form he is too hard to leave out.
Both groups look strong and we do not know who will come through the qualifiers yet, but I fancy England to reach at least the knockout stages, even though they’re in a Super 12 group with both last year’s finalists in Australia and New Zealand.
Sam Curran’s death bowling has been excellent in the last year and he offers a lot with the bat
If they bring their attention to detail, practise well under pressure and do all the things they have been doing, they have a great chance of winning it.
After all, until rain came in Canberra it looked like they were going to beat Australia 3-0 and that shows what a top white-ball outfit they remain, despite a difficult first summer under Buttler.
England won the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean in 2010.They were four balls away from winning it in India in 2016 and two overs away from being in the final last time.
Because of the fast nature of the tournament and the format, one loss leaves you vulnerable, as Sri Lanka discovered against Namibia and West Indies against Scotland.
But if England avoid those kind of slip-ups, they can unite the 50-over and T20 World Cups.
