each book has 10 different chapters, and the order of the chapters in each book is the same. however, the book you use depends on the level you are taking. for n5, i used the book for n3-n5 for all the chapters. that was perfect for me. so-matome books are organized in the same way. each chapter of each book has a title, and each title contains a list of vocabulary words.
they say that so-matome is based on the book for n3-n5, but i have my doubts. that book is organized by words, and there are no sub-pages. one has to scroll up and down a lot to look for words. so-matome books are organized by the level of the test and it is fine for me.

i think the so-matome books are very organized and well-made. they have numbers for each section, and each section starts with a title. that is very helpful. the main body of the book contains vocabulary words written in both roman and katakana, in small and big fonts. they also have very good arrangement of grammar rules in each chapter. the grammar rules, they put in the last section of the chapter. for n3, i dont know why, but they put all the vocabulary in the last section. so, you have to scroll down a lot to look for the vocabulary. however, you can also search them with the search feature.
the last section of each chapter is the problems section. each problem has the english translation, the japanese translation and the answer. the answer is basically a combination of the japanese and english translation, but sometimes they also have the explanations for the grammar.

so-matome books are short, and i think they are good. i dont feel that they are too long for me. however, they are not really sufficient to pass jlpt. it is still too difficult for me. i think that is okay. i think they should have been like those american reference books, where you can just copy from the page to the page. if they have the page numbers in the beginning, it would be so much better.
