Puzzle Pirates Gunning Bot

To get the best value from your Gunning Bot, you want to minimize the amount of time spent loading. This might be a secondary puzzle piece, but if you know the names and locations of the things you’ll need to load, and have loaded them as fast as possible before going to your Battle, then you can get all of your ships loaded and you’ll be in combat a bit more quickly. Then, while you’re fighting, you have less of a chance of not getting your ships loaded in time for the battle, and you can take a little more time, really focusing on using your Gunning Bot to your fullest.

The Gunning Bot uses the exact same method to load your cannons as the BattleBoard, except that it is harder to tell which pieces need to be loaded first. The Gunning Bot will use the 1st piece loaded, then the 2nd, then the 3rd, and so on.

To find out what they are and where they go, there’s an online tool at http://hastebin.com/dahagoqohw and a Python script that I wrote that converts the board to a text file at https://github.com/CarlosHK/gunning_bot . The gunning board will become part of the battle, so depending on how much you need to know about the game, you might need to load both.

So at the very least, the Gunning Bot will be searching for two pieces of the same gun, one in each direction around the corner before loading a piece. In the following example, I load the 1st gun, and then put the Gunning Bot at the center tile, which will load the 2nd gun in the same way. You could put it where you know there’s a gun to load, or if you know there is no gun in this direction, you could put it so that it can check as many directions as you need as quickly as possible.

red a good ship to use as a first ship. the danger here is that red ships are all masters who may have a few rumbles. the reds will have a few more crew than you so expect a few more swordsmen/rumblers. if you are fighting a red ship, then you should expect to lose the battle. your job is to fight as long as possible and then surrender. any damage you take is a loss. you will be asked for your surrender at the end of the battle. do not surrender if you dont have a lot of crew. the surrender does not mean that you lost. it just means that you were defeated and will have to start over. you can keep the pirates and their equipment and fight again later.
it is obvious from the above that the faster the pieces are moving, the easier it will be to score highly. the initial speed of pieces whenever a player enters the puzzle is based directly on that player’s standing in gunnery. additionally there are a few factors that will change the piece speed temporarily within the puzzle.
the target ship will always have a certain number of sails, and each sail will be on a number of turns. if you shoot a cannonball into it, this will be converted into the next sail, and the time for it to be on will be decreased. if you shoot one sail, the time will be decreased for the next sail, and so on. while you are in the puzzle, you can make the target ship turn by right-clicking on the ship’s sails, and placing cannonballs in them.
spawns are created by the game to have the same number of pirates on board as you do. if the target ship is bigger than yours and still green, they most likely cant fill their sails. take advantage in this situation and make them waste those starting moves, firing only if you get the window. otherwise, move away and let them waste their movement. if you put two cannonballs into them, theyll start taking on bilge making sails tokens generate even slower. count the turns.. those starting sails only last 5 turns then they are on only the ones theyll generate
