* When computers are moved and they request a new IP address, the current IP address is found in the lease database which could be a bad thing as that IP address will be exhausted and there will be no more addresses to be assigned. If this happens, the computer can receive a boot up error as it will not be able to assign it an IP address. If you do want this to happen, you must manually tell the DHCP server that it should renew a lease, then it will update the lease database.

– Declare – Set your WinDHCP server to «Declare» mode by right clicking the service in the services control panel and selecting “Change service mode”. You can change the “start mode” to “Manual” which will stop the DHCP client from automatically attempting to renew the lease after it has expired.
– Run – Use the “Run” mode on the service to have the client automatically start renewing the lease after it has expired.
There are several different options available in WinDHCP that allow for a lot of customization.

4. Lease Lenth and Interest Rate – The length of the lease and the Interest Rate are both configurable.
5. Tftp Information – This is used when WinDHCP is configured to “Run” mode and the user has specified a DHCP IP address.
6. Async Reads – The method WinDHCP uses for reading the file from the Tftp server. To read the information from the Tftp server asynchronously, the user must specify a timeout of 0 milliseconds.
7. Ipv6 Information – The format of the data the WinDHCP service reads from the Tftp server. TftpIpv6Prefix is used to specify the prefix to use in forming an IPv6 address.
8. DNS Rebinding – The format of the data the WinDHCP service reads from the Tftp server. TftpDnsPrefix is used to specify the DNS Server suffix to use.
