Seeds are a favorite of children as they germinate. This is true especially when seeds are sprouting quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago Sativa) is an easy to cultivate seed that will sprout in around a week. Sprinkle a few alfalfa seeds over a damp paper towel and watch the seeds germinate and grow.

What you’ll need:

The packet contains Alfalfa seeds (about 1.5g).

A small or small dish, or a saucer

Three pieces of paper towel

A spray mister or a small water jug

How to Grow

Take 3 pieces of paper towel and place them on top of the other on a plate.

Drain the water off the plate. The paper towel needs to be moist, however the seeds must not be floating in the water.

Sprinkle the seeds thickly onto the paper towel.

Set it on a sunny window and water to stop the paper towel from drying out. You can use a mister or spray bottle to moisten the seeds or you can add a small amount of water to the saucer by using the smallest cup or jug.

Everyday, you should check your seeds to determine how they’re growing.

Troubleshooting

Alfalfa seeds are easy to grow and will be able to germinate in just 2-6 days. Here are some things to be aware of when your seeds fail to germinate within this time.

Too dry. Seeds require water to grow. Seeds of alfalfa absorb approximately half their weight in water before they germinate. This makes them appear swollen. Seeds that are not moist enough will not develop. Make sure to add more water to your plate to ensure that the seeds are moist, but not floating in water. You could also soak your seeds for a few hours. Make sure you remove them from the dish and wash them thoroughly before placing them onto a paper towel.

Too moist: Seeds that are too humid may cause their roots and their shoots to decay before they are able to develop. It’s also possible that mould will start to grow on the seeds. Although it’s fine for the paper towel and seeds to remain damp however they shouldn’t be submerged in water. Get rid of any excess water on the plate every when you water or mist your seeds.

Too cold or أفضل أنواع بذور البرسيم hot: The best temperature for alfalfa’s growth is 20-25degC. If you’re growing your seeds indoors in winter, place them in a cool area. If you’re cultivating your seeds in very warm temperatures, you may have to water the seeds more often because they’ll dry out quicker.
