Barleti’s History of Scanderbeg was an early account of the Skanderbeg legend. The work was written many years after the death of George of Poděbrady, so it was based principally on other people’s traditions and did not present new evidence. Barleti’s History of Scanderbeg was very popular. It was printed several times in Venice and Rome between 1508 and 1540. Barletta History was translated into Latin and many times. Barlette’s history was widely discussed and discussed in some textbooks, for example, in Ancona, 1663, and in Ferrara, 1731. Barlette was one of the most popular authors in 17th century Europe. Italian life of early modern period was largely shaped by heroic, romantic, and chivalric writing around figures like Scanderbeg. Barlette’s history was very popular. According to Martinović, Barleti’s book is one of very few sources available to modern historians. Albanian studies of the 19th century were largely ethnographic and historical. Serbian symbolism of George and his devotion to the Serbian nation had influenced some of his admirers. One of them, Lamberto Rossi, wrote history of the Albanians based on the Barleti de Scanderbeg. In the 19th century, this text was popular in Serbia. Another Skanderbeg admirer was Jovan Uskoković, who in his poem «Shkodra» praised the Albanian general.[24]

This book is considered among barletti’s most important works. From 1538 it was the only Skanderbeg biography in Latin. In 1540 it was also translated into and printed in Slavic.[7] The History of Scanderbeg is considered an Albanian cultural treasure, vital to the formation of Albanian national self-consciousness. The History of Scanderbeg is considered an important work of Albanian national and patriotic literature. In this book, Barleti defended George’s actions against the assumptions of the Roman Catholic church made by the priests.
