I’m just wondering if a company like EA, who have proven many times they are not willing to listen to consumers, can be trusted to release a game without it. Now they have this program in place to block the game from being ran if they don’t like the idea of people swapping in cracked versions on the servers.

I just got an email from one of their support people saying that this problem has been fixed now. I guess in most cases, they’ll just wait until a really large number of complaints start to come in, and then release a patch. Not sure what the %age of users actually have Origin, but I guess its around the same as Steam – if you don’t have it, you’re pretty much a non-consumer.

For anyone who was lucky enough to use Steam when it was first released on Windows, Steam has been proven to provide maximum protection against pirates, when the server they are communicating with responds correctly to your credit card details. Any bug or security issue in the Steam client is not communicated by the server, but rather a serious bug is reported to Valve by the community, and then they evaluate the situation, and either fix the issue or disable the feature in question. Imagine if Origin weren’t any different, or it even tried to counteractively interfere with certain features of the game on its own servers? Do you think Origin would have the trust of the community, or the respect from their consumers?

We can’t really blame Valve for being a little cautious. If EA really wanted to crack down on pirates, they’d have to find a way to prevent someone from obtaining the installers. Which means no Origin would be able to be run. Which would be unacceptable for all involved and in the end, would likely end up closing the program down.

i followed everything you said, just didnt work. i think ur wrong about the firewall and the server not even starting. if its a firewall issue than how do u play sp world? im wondering because right now im having a similar issue with origin and i tried to do it ur way but it didnt work. server starts fine i click start server but then it says server is already binded and if i hit okay it says port noch available
did everything u said, server start fine, click start server and it says port already binded. i rebooted my computer, checked the port, everything is green, it says its already binded by the system, if i press okay, the server just doesnt start, i cant connect to it with origin, i also tried my brothers computer and it didnt work. the server is on my brothers computer so i do have internet on both computers. he has skype and he has cc on it (but i do not) but it wont let me in. i always get wrong password and hes not sure how to find it. on yahoo messaging i get this message: could not connect to the internet for the server. it says it has no internet connection on both my brothers and mine. please help!
no! i dont have skype. i tried downloading CyPhone and the people who have the game have skype and i cant get into it, they say its bugged because you have to install it on the computer that you already have the game on but i dont understand what they mean. they said its work like windows live messenger. if you can help me do that so i can play simcity 5 on my brothers computer it would mean the world to me. So yea in an attempt to fix the issue with my rcon tools Simcity crashed and i couldnt figure out how to restart the game. So i did a system restore which isnt the greatest thing to do because before doing so i had to have a disc to my laptop which I didnt have. So i was like urggg how can i restart the game without a disc. I went to the simcity folder which didnt seem to have an ini file so i figured i should try restarting. So i downloaded the simcity exe again but the thing is i cant make it to work what so ever. I would like to play as a hacker. I downloaded some simcity tools but when I close the simcity exe file it just closes. Whats going on
